This movie is amazing. One of my top 10 of 2009.
I have such respect for Guillaume Canet (who, by the way, is so attractive - he’s like a French Patrick Dempsey) and his directorial debut only furthers how much I love seeing him on screen. I can’t wait to see the next movie he’s writing and directing.
But I can’t believe they’re doing an English remake. What’s the point? Are people really so lazy they can’t read subtitles? I just think there’s no way an English translation will improve on the original, and I feel this way about most “translate to English” remakes. But I bet a zillion more people will see the movie in English because they’ll be able to publicize it better and have the trailer include a million more explosions than the French version. Is that why this happens? I’m conflicted.
Regardless, see this movie. Especially if you like The Big Sleep. From the NYT Review: “In the shortcut language of a movie pitch, Guillaume Canet’s delicious contemporary thriller “Tell No One” is “Vertigo” meets “The Fugitive” by way of “The Big Sleep.” That is meant as high praise.”
Indeed.
