inspired by Geoff G: An addendum to First sketches
Might have started the class end of 2005 because I wrote this EIC sketch first week of 2006. Either way I just found the actual first sketch i have saved on my hard drive, from september of 2005. I think I had written some various ideas when I was doing improv and tried to start a sketch group…
I just found my sketch on my hard drive. Here’s the thing about the UCBLA Sketch 101 I took: There was no curriculum, and we group wrote all our sketches. So I pitched this idea, and then I wrote it in class with help from whoever got put in my group (I think we wrote 2 sketches simultaneously each class). I don’t remember exactly who was assigned to write with me, but I know for sure Paul Rust and Neil Campbell, and possibly Molly McAleer, Michael Cassady, Zach Paez, and whoever else was in that 101.
Anyway, presented without further comment, here’s an excerpt from Ghost Story, about kids whose van breaks down in the woods, and they run into a girl who wants to help them and they assume she’s a ghost who’s going to kill them:
CHAD
No! She’s luring us into her lair: Hollow Manor. But don’t worry. She only preys on virgins. So there’s no worries there.
Eric wipes away flop-sweat and tugs on his collar.
ERIC
Yes. Ha. Then we have no worries, do we? I’ve had sex. Lots of it. In fact, I’m having sex right now.
JULIE
You guys, I’m shaking. And it’s not because I have Parkinson’s. Oh, wait. Yes, it is. Or is it? It is. I have Parkinson’s.
INT. GHOST-GIRL’S HOUSE
Eric pushes in Chad and Julie.
GHOST-GIRLS
The phone’s right over there. Feel free to talk as long as you want.
ERIC
Thank you.
JULIE
See, Chad? There’s nothing to worry about. You’re just trying to scare me.
GHOST-GIRLS
I’ll just be watching “Law and Order.”
CHAD
See! If you re-arrange the letters in “Law and Order,” it spells: “Dead Ghost Here.”
JULIE
Oh my God, it’s true!
ERIC
Although that’s true - very true - an inagruable fact - if a ghost is dead, it cannot hurt you. As Thomas Hobbes once said, “Ghosts don’t sc-sc-scare me.”
